    Summary

Kaveh gets injured on a job site, leaving him with significant damage to his eyes, temporarily - or perhaps permanently - unable to see. Completely blind, he has to learn to view the world through a whole new lens.

“There’s a good chance that the injury to his eyes won’t heal. He may lose his sight. Permanently.”

Alhaitham's heart plummeted. He glanced down at Kaveh's pale face, the bandage obscuring his eyes as he lay unconscious suddenly seeming far more oppressive.

“I see,” Alhaitham eventually managed through the lump forming in his throat. It would be Kaveh's life, his career - his entire livelihood - in jeopardy when he awoke.

The prospect of Kaveh’s blindness tormented Alhaitham for countless reasons, but selfishly... he couldn’t bear the thought of never again seeing those beautiful crimson-golden eyes, the very essence of the light in his life - eyes that lit up with joy at a good meal or a perfectly aged glass of wine, blazed with passion as he argued with Alhaitham, and stared up at him with an innocent, soul-stirring warmth, always so unaware of the profound effect the mere sight of him had on Alhaitham.

    Summary

Like Haitham would even care, Kaveh almost says, before remembering that the whole point is making everyone think Al-Haitham would, in fact, care.

“Oh, he’ll show up, all right,” he says instead. “He’s going to show up so hard, you don’t even know. Because he cares. So much. About me.”

His abductors trade looks with each other.

“Why do you think he’s into him?” the first man whispers, perfectly audible.

The other shrugs. “Maybe the ex-Acting Grand Sage likes blondes?”

Or: After the truth of his living situation finally gets out to the rest of Sumeru, Kaveh knows he has only one way to protect his reputation: convince everyone that he and Al-Haitham are married.

Too bad he never realized the risk of being the former Acting Grand Sage’s wife.

    Summary

With a heavy sigh, Kaveh buried his face in his pillow. All of his romantic ideals, as usual, were quashed by the one man he actually yearned for such affections from - a marriage for the sake of fucking tax deductions.

Though it made sense in a cold, rational way, such a logical and disinterested proposal for Kaveh to willingly sacrifice his heart for nothing more than mora cut deep into his chest. And worst of all... Alhaitham was unaware that Kaveh’s heart could never even belong to anyone but him - that he was already the sole benefactor of Kaveh’s silent longing, having stolen Kaveh’s heart against his will long ago.

Kaveh curled around his pillow as if the soft cotton of his pillowcase could offer a reprieve from the turmoil churning deep in his stomach. He’d long since made peace with his unrequited love for Alhaitham, resigning himself to a lifetime of suppressed yearning - but this? This was torture, plain and simple, demanding mental gymnastics that Kaveh wasn’t confident he was flexible enough to contort himself into.

    Summary

The fae searched those blue eyes for any hint of deceit, any sort of lie. Instead he found warmth unlike any he ever felt before. His features softened, his mouth dropping to speak again but words escaped him. And yet, the knight remained ever patient for a reply. It felt like the will of the future sat heavily in Flins hands.

"Is it greedy of me to want it more than I've wanted anything in my entire existence?" The words came out soft, an uncharacteristic hesitation to them. Like they were merely bubbles in a dream.

"Far from it. Kyryll, I want to be here with you. You’ve become my home over the years. And I want nothing more than to be home with you." Varka closed the distance between them, a hand tucking around to the nape of Flins neck. "Will you accept me as yours?”
    ----------------------------------------------------------
Flins is crushed when he finds out the Knights of Favonius are pulling out of Nod Krai. Varka finds him alone in the rain pondering his feelings. But when the knight tells him of his true plans... warmth radiates through the fae. To celebrate, they end up back at his lighthouse to share a night of passion.
