“To be shinobi is to endure.”
The only reason Ono Toshiko thought she survived her consciousness waking in her third life was because she had those words ringing in her head.
The thought of having to start all over again every time she died, of being denied the peace of an afterlife, was a horrific one. Forging new bonds and finding new loves in each life only to lose them one after another. Being eternally ground down by life and loss. Forever denied her rest.
Still, she’d been raised a shinobi in her second life - and no one could say she hadn’t been an excellent one.
She would endure.
And perhaps, in this third go-around, maybe hang on until she died of old age.
You know.
For once.
The irony, when she realized where and when she’d been reborn, and as who, did not escape her.

Summary
The Fourth Shinobi War wasn't going well. Shinobi were dying right-left-and-center. Ono Toshiko had done what she could to avoid it - and failed.
Her little brother had a plan. A fail-safe. A seal attached to her heart, mind, and chakra network so that if his latest knuckle-headed scheme to fix their world failed, there would still be hope.
She agreed but prayed nonetheless that a miracle would occur and after the war was over Naruto would take the seal off of her.
She should have known better.
After all - if there were deities listening, they clearly had no mercy for a reincarnated soul. Especially not enough to *not* force her to do it all over again. Only in a new body, and a new time.
