The snark was started in March 2021 by a group of anonymous users that are allegedly believed to be Hollander’s former Montreal teammates. The snark was brought to online attention by a poster on Instagram who explained the thread and encouraged people to report it.

He looked up at Ilya. Beautiful Ilya. Who had been so excited that the news was out. Who was ready to go public all these years while Shane had been a coward. Who was looking at him like he was a good person.
Shane slowly unbuckled his seatbelt. The bubble had popped; a new reality was beginning. He offered Ilya a tight smile, and let himself be pulled from his seat.
