When Tan was fourteen, they met for the first time.
He remembered standing awkwardly in the doorway, clutching the straps of his backpack, while Phum talked too loudly but still calmly about something unimportant. And then Fang walked past them — quiet, distant, smelling faintly of almond and something colder he couldn’t name back then.
"Hey, silly," he smiled at Phum, messing his hair, "have more clases today?"
Fang barely looked at him, but Tan did.
And for a second, Tan forgot what Phum was even talking about. It wasn’t admiration. It was curiosity — sharp and quiet. Something about him felt… unreachable.
Not in a crush kind of way — not yet. More like noticing a locked door in a house you plan to visit often.
