    “I-I didn’t want to die.” he defended, moving so he could wrap his arms around Dick’s torso, hiding his face in Dick’s neck. “I just-I thought about-would it be so bad if-” Dick wraps his arms around Tim, and hauls him into a bone crushing hug. Tim clings to him like he’s 12 again and just dealt with his first dose of fear toxin.

    “You don’t” Dick starts to say, but Tim cuts him off, voice muffled against Dick’s neck.

    “-I thought it wouldn’t have been so bad if you didn’t catch me,” he confessed.

    Tim could recall that night in the cavern quite clearly.

    The way Ra’s and Slade used him and abused him in front of Dick to make him cave. How they manipulated his older brother by torturing him and nearly raping him in front of Dick so that he would give himself up to Slade.

    He remembered the utter sick feeling he felt when he saw Dick’s terrified face, how his voice cracked and strained with desperation and fear.

    How could he ever forgive himself for that? For putting his brother through such pain and torture?

    So when Jason, Damian and Steph told him that he would be seeing Dick as soon as they landed the plane, Tim was scared. He didn’t know what to expect.

    Tim being biologically Dick's younger brother doesn't usually matter all that much - they were brothers before they found out about their connection. It doesn't matter except for when Dick talks about the circus and John and Mary and everything that came before.

    When you add in a drunk Dick who feels safe enough to go down memory lane without the guilt and the grief crushing him, you get a whole lot of feels from Tim about what it was like to be raised alongside Dick Grayson and what it might've been like to grow up with him.

    "He's dead."

    That's the thing Tim's stuck on, really. His hand is glued to Joker's neck, his fingers—stiff, still cold from his dunk in the sewers—fumbling to find a pulse, a stray heartbeat, anything. There's a pool of blood slowly beginning to grow on the floor, dark and thick and wrong, and the taste of iron fills Tim's mouth.

    For one brief half-second, all he can feel is relief. Finally, finally. It almost bowls him over, the force of it. And then—

    "I killed him," Dick mutters behind him, and Tim's very abruptly reminded of the who and why and oh, no.

    —

    or, Dick kills the Joker.
