Summary
Distantly, there’s a part of her that wants to fight against the notion that she’s going soft. Mira has been all sharp teeth and jagged edges for as long as she can remember. She suffocated whatever kindness she had inside of her by the time she hit double digits and realised that being nice wouldn’t be enough to keep her alive. Biting every hand that came close was a good of a compromise as any for her, because almost all of them would end up turning into fists; she’s never seen a reason to take the chance and get hit just for wanting something stupid like to be
heldfree from having to ice a handful of bruises.Mira has gotten good at taking care of herself. She’s gotten good at keeping people out of her head and at a distance, because that’s what she’s always done. It’s easier to forgo relationships—of any kind—entirely rather than pick through each one of them and stare at them under a microscope just on the off-chance that the person isn’t going to turn out to be some sort of monster.
Zoey and Rumi are different, though.
(or, five times mira fled from being touched, and the one time she stayed)
