For as long as he could remember, Jay was the emotional one. Kai knew it like the back of his hand, so obviously, it was expected that Jay would express more grief than everyone else regarding Nya's death. And Kai knew from losing so many in the past, that instead of spiraling, he should be selfless. But Jay didn't see it that way, and for some reason, this angered him.

the latter events of Seabound, where Kai finally snaps and expresses his grief over his sister's death.

“Tomioka, really-” Iguro kept objecting, until he realized what it really meant. Tomioka wasn’t curious about what was under the bandages or about the foul blood. Or if he was, he wasn’t going to get into Iguro’s face about it or treating him differently. He was going to respect Iguro and let him eat in peace.
Was that what normal people were supposed to do? Tomioka just seemed so 𝘯𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘭, acting like any everyday person would, respecting Iguro, not trying to force-feed him but genuinely looking out for his health and hunger.

Story concept: Obanai meets Tomioka instead of Mitsuri in the Ubuyashiki estate, and his total lack of reaction to Obanai has the same catnip effect, leading to Obanai fixating on Tomioka.

basically i take that and make an entire canon rewrite while having sanegiyuu and obamitsu running in the background, along with some good old giyuu-mitsuri friendship added to the mix. theyre so silly i love them.

Summary
Kai can’t help but feel like he isn’t doing enough.
All the money his team is working so hard for is going towards keeping a roof over their heads, and the children’s parties he’s booking just don’t pay enough.
So, to try and alleviate some of the stress from everybody else, Kai has made it his responsibility to ensure there’s enough money left over for them to eat.
(There isn’t enough money. But, really, what’s the harm in a few missed meals?)

Lloyd has a complete family and is finally seen as more than Garmadon's son. Even Meowthra becomes the city mascot, and what other city could say they have a giant cat for a mascot?
Yes, everything is perfect.
Now if only Kai could stop having dreams about a boy in green crying beside his bed.
