Summary
It’s odd that he’s short of breath by the time they reach the top of the staircase leading to Kalim’s room. He closes his lips tightly to hide the fact. Out of pure muscle memory, Jamil reaches for the bronze handle and opens the heavy, wooden door. He slowly trails after Kalim’s light footsteps as they enter his room. On a clear night like tonight, Kalim’s room is illuminated by the moon and dressed in starlight. It’s too bright, too serene. Barely past the doorway, Jamil stares at the graceful arch of Kalim’s back as he stretches and sighs happily over a day well spent. It sends him into an unwilling daze and he feels sick with dread.
Jamil quietly closes the door behind him and immediately crouches down, the last of his proud defenses collapsing.
“…Jamil?”

In order to be allowed to marry Kalim, Jamil figures he has to be at least as good as previous Asim heir spouses. No - he has to be better. So here he is, flipping through profiles for past generations. He'd be making good headway, if not for Kalim interjecting every five minutes about the other things the people did.

Summary
Kalim had begun to show more respect for Jamil's personal space. Gone were the sudden hugs or overly hearty shoulder slaps from the heir. And, in theory, these changes should have made Jamil's life a little easier.
