    Summary

Viago's fingers lingered on hers, tracing the length of her glove. "These are new."

Teia slipped closer, felt the hitch of his breath against her hair. "Good eye." They were dark as shadow, the ends flaring like petals at her wrist. Another deliberate choice.

He cleared his throat just a fraction too loudly. "Not what I would have expected with such a bold choice of dress."

"Oh I know." She let her answer fall as slow and surely as blood from the tip of a blade. "They match what's underneath."

The heat that spread under his mask was her first true victory of the evening. It was not quite a blush, but still a colour that only belonged to her. Maker how she'd missed it.

He turned her hand in a slow caress of leather on lace. "Is that so?"

She reached up and pulled one curl from his perfectly styled hold. A line tested. Pushed. The edge of another breath followed as her forefinger relearned the caress past his beard, his cravat, down to the centre of his shirt.

Teia and Viago catch up at a masquerade ball.

    Summary

Viago doesn’t know what he was thinking.

It’s not that any of this seemed like a good idea. He is, as always, acutely aware of all the ways in which any given situation can go wrong. Ridiculous for him to even attempt this, and with Andarateia Cantori of all people.

After the events at Lago di Novo, Viago travels to Antiva City with Teia to apprise his father of the growing Antaam threat, and wonders if their nascent relationship can survive his paranoia.

Geralt's blood hummed with the knowledge that he was allowed this—that he could reach for her, sink into her warmth, breathe her essence deep. She was his and he was hers, and there was a savage sort of pride in that, edged in disbelief.

    Summary

The first word Emmrich learnt to read was Johanna.

His eyes followed the sharp edges of each letter, cutting across his right wrist, staking some wordless claim, the ink as dark as blood. Each edge was distinct from the other, downward strokes hard and impressive, straightforward. Emmrich traced each letter — wrote it out, charcoal on paper, on leaves, fingers in the dirt, until they were identical to his skin, until he knew Johanna by heart.

Then a second name came after, months later, much more surprising than the first.

On his left wrist, all curving swirls, rounded letters, and sweeping lines, much more difficult for his young eyes to follow. The H molded into the A, pressed even closer to the N, as if written in a hurry, ink so light, the word untethered to its writer. Mummy had to help him decipher it, holding him close, her long dark hair plaited, the tips of it tickling his nose. She laughed, bright and tinkling — “Your soulmate has terrible handwriting, my love,” — before settling on Thana. Death.

Or, one Emmrich Volkarin, bearer of two soul marks, and a lifetime's exploration of the different faces of love and heartbreak.
