Summary
The Corroded Coffin members made a name for themselves investigating the paranormal, they have a fairly successful show that brings in some extra cash. Eddie's not sure if he really believes any of it, it's been eight years and he's only managed to record a few pieces of evidence he can't explain.
He's not expecting much from the investigation of the Harrington house, even laughing at how serious the man sounds about their safety. Steve Harrington himself and his stupid beautiful face is a big draw, he's not going to lie, but the stories he's telling about the haunting he's experiencing sound far-fetched even for them; particles of darkness, doors that lead nowhere, voices from rooms that are empty and visions of other places filled with black vines.
He'd assume the whole thing to be a hoax, if Harrington wasn't offering them a sizable amount of money to spend the night, and there's more on the table if they can rid him of his haunting for good.

“I'll try to control myself,” Eddie interrupts with a quip, a smirk. Fucking girls in Steve’s car, or anywhere else for that matter, isn’t going to be an issue, unless something pretty fundamental shifts in him.
Steve continues, completely ignoring Eddie, “You’ll wipe your feet. You’re not dragging dirt all over my car. No hitchhikers. No cutesy road games. No smoking in the car. I’m not paying for all the gas.”
“Ass, gas or grass, got it,” Eddie says, like he's taking this very seriously. He is not taking this seriously.

Summary
Eddie Munson, with no future left for him in Hawkins, grabbed his band, dragged them to California, and gave up everything for a chance at fame.
For the first time in his life, taking a risk paid off. Corroded Coffin shot to the top of the charts in a matter of months. Their concept album may have been inspired by Hawkins, but Eddie never had to think about that awful fucking town again.
Or at least, not for three years.
In 1989, after the last show of Corroded Coffin's "Nails in the Coffin" tour, its frontman finds himself speeding down the highway from Indianapolis back to Hawkins. Back home. To save the people who saved him back in spring of 1986.
He arrives just in time to see Steve Harrington rise into the air.
