Waltz into the PTA meeting with some superior look--not on my watch, fucker.” She gave a huge, wet sniff. “By the time the red faded from my eyes, I’d knocked out the principal, punched a woman in the throat and was strangling Beth’s husband with my bra. But what was I to do? I’m Brenda freaking Matthews, and I will not put up with that shit. I was prom queen, for God’s sake. Prom. Queen.”

    There was a resounding silence. Then one of the old ladies put her fist in the air in a moment of commiseration.
