Michael Afton thought he was dead when the scooper ripped his insides open. He thought for sure this amalgamation of wires and metal would wander around his body like a literal meat suit.
But others have plans for him, and he’s ironically enough, stuck in the one animatronic he hid behind for so long as a child.
Except this one was a little bit different.

Avid paused, looking back at Drift. “Vampires?” He echoed, voice thin. The wood was clearly to defend against creatures that would throw themselves against windows, to block out the awful noises. “Who would care about vampires?”
Vampires, what was that about again? Avid cast his mind back, mind feeling a million miles away.
Her weak smile faded away. Replaced with concern. “But you talked about them all the time. That we should be protecting ourselves from them.”
Legundo turns his head back, voice grave. Both gaze at Drift, eyes in shadows. “There are far worse things in the dark to be afraid of.”
Three days. That’s how long they were missing. Twelve weeks. That’s how long they were in the fungal apocalypse.

The loudspeaker crackled again as the lava closed in, and Owen flinched, clamping his hands over his ears and shutting his eyes. He didn’t want to die here, he realized. It was a bit of a shock, because dying actually sounded amazing right then, but dying while some pompous executives played Britney Spears over top of his screaming was strangely unappealing.
He kept his eyes closed as his breathing quickened, but he swore he could hear the lava creeping under the door and into the cell, cooking him alive.
He didn’t want to die here, he wanted to go see Apo. He wanted to go back to before all of this and wake up early and bake Apo pie and he didn’t want to die here he couldn’t die here he wouldn’t DIE HERE

It's just gotten infinitely more obvious and infinitely less easy to negotiate with. With Legundo's usual ever-present time limit bearing down on both him and this new unknown, things seem set to unravel... whether or not anyone wants them to.
