Summary
Ed comes looking for Stede when he doesn't show up at the dock. When Chauncey shoots Ed, Stede has no choice but to take him to the one place where there's actually a chance they might not be immediately killed or captured: the house he once shared with Mary, Alma, and Louis.
(In which there's a lot of hurt/comfort as Stede tends to an injured Ed, Stede and Ed grow closer as they deal with the various forms of guilt they carry, and Mary and Doug get an unexpected front-row seat to the unlikely romance between the greatest pirate of all time and Mary's sort-of-ex, very-much-not-dead husband.)

Summary
Stede's return to the Revenge has been eventful and, so far, awful. His attempts to explain his disappearance, and confess his true feelings, have not gone well. In fact, they have led to him being incarcerated in the hold.
Blackbeard has not welcomed his unexpected reappearance with open arms. He has barely even acknowledged Stede's existence. As time passes, the rupture between them seems ever more irreparable, and Stede begins to wonder if he will survive, let alone have the opportunity to try to make amends.
When you alter the course of the life of most feared pirate on the high seas, and then break his heart, what quarter can you expect?
“Ah, that’s it, is it? You’ve come to take your ship back?”
Stede can feel the heat of Edward’s body just in front of him, smell the wonderful, heady mix of aromas that, he hadn’t realised before now, has always brought him so much comfort. Made him feel safe.
“And how exactly are you planning to take it from me?” The question is so quiet, almost a purr. It ghosts across Stede’s cheek and fills his ear, before shivering down his spine.

The problem with his plan (besides the obvious, which is that he has absolutely no intention of following through) is that he didn't account for the possibility that Stede would show up without anyone having to find him, red-faced and furious and bursting with love, over the side of his boat, looking all windswept and gorgeous, and challenge him to a duel.
Because that would be absolutely mental.
And that's what happens, because of course, Ed's forgotten who he's dealing with.
-Ed's tired and Stede's determined. They work it out.

“Can't believe you’ve got a tattoo for me,” Stede whispers, throat swollen from his silly, besotted tears. “Because of me. That's just–”
And then it's Ed who pulls back, tilting his head in what looks like…confusion?
“Wait,” he says, with an eyebrow raised. “What do you mean, a tattoo because of you?”
Stede pulls back, too.
He is equally confused.
Ed squints at him.
“You said ‘a tattoo',” Ed reiterates, inexplicably emphasising the ‘a’. “I mean. I understand why this one might get a bigger reaction, or whatever. I get it's maybe more meaningful than the others. But–”
“Hang on,” Stede interjects, his brain snagging on ‘this one’. On ‘the others’.
The others?
What does that mean?
(OR: Three months post-innkeepers, and Stede has yet to recognise the significance of several of Ed's tattoos. Fluff & Feels. Two-shot.)
