Pomni had a hatred for jumpscares; not only are they cheap scares, but they're also impossible not to get scared of. So when Caine's new adventure involved placing the circus inside a horror cabin in the woods excursion, she finds herself in a nightmare position. Worst of all, it was Jax's suggestion in the first place. Pomni dreaded whatever messed-up plan the bunny had come up with to land her in this situation.

Summary
Jax was perfectly fine keeping everyone at arm’s length- he didn’t need anyone at all.

Jax is an old friend to comfort, and the effort it takes to remember how it moves through his heart is the same as a rustbound wheel: loud, slow, unchoreographed. The newness of this with Pomni unnerves him.
Alternatively, both Jax and Pomni are trying to figure out how to show care for one another while dusting away the line in the sand.
