Mapleshade survives Mapleshade's Vengeance and finds a new home on Myler's farm, learning how to live as a barn cat. People keep coming up to Kaveh to congratulate him. Kaveh doesn’t really know why, and he’s a little too scared to ask at this point, so he heads back home, content if not a little bemused.
He is, unfortunately, reminded of it the very next day, when the door slams open and Al-Haitham stalks in. “Mind telling me why everyone was congratulating me today?” he demands. “About your pregnancy?"
Or: Al-Haitham is, without a doubt, the most annoying person Kaveh knows. Maybe the world’s second-most annoying person can help Kaveh figure him out.

After reading the absolute shitshow that was “All the Sad Tales”, Kakavasha dies in a no good, very embarrassing way but that’s not too important. What is, however, very, very interesting is that he has woken up as Lord Aventurine from the book that inadvertently killed him. It only takes a bit (after a lot of trying not to think about the Situation) to decide that he will be stealing Lord Aventurine’s husband, Veritas of Amphoreus. It wasn’t like the dead could complain. And if that ghost could, he wouldn’t even care — he absolutely fumbled when it came to his husband!
Well as the saying goes, another man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

Summary
Hallucinations greet Kakavasha in the place of his vision, on the bridge between his mind and his barren optic nerves.
