Harry watched as she walked away, heart sinking lower and lower with every step she took, away from him- from them.

He continued to stare forlornly at the spot she’d been just moments ago, heart clenching at the painful realization that this really was it.
She was gone.
She never once looked back. He mused absently, the thought slicing even deeper into his tenderly wounded heart that maybe she’d been wanting this all along- had been so eager to leave that she could so easily leave them behind without a second glance.

"Daddy, guess what day it is today!” Harry hummed in thought, tapping at his bottom lip as he pretended to ponder the question.
“Hmm. I don’t know baby, the day we go to work?” He posed with a cheeky smile, chuckling lightly at the growing pout on his boy’s face, the latter vehemently shaking his head.
“No, Daddy! It’s my birthday!” He announced proudly. Harry faux gasped at the information, swinging the hyperactive boy into his arms, pressing a loud wet kiss to his cheek.
“It is too!” He exclaimed loudly, smile softening with affection at the way Louis pressed his cherry pink cheeks into his small palms as he giggled happily.
“Happy birthday, baby boy.” He murmured gently, Louis wrapping his arms around his neck tightly in a warm embrace.

“Daddy,” Louis sobbed, clinging tightly on to the elder as he pressed his face into his neck, seeking comfort from his daddy.
“I’m sorry, Daddy, I’m sorry!” He wailed, babbling hysterical apologies over and over as Harry squeezed him tightly in his arms, shushing him gently and pressing reassuring kisses to his head.
What on earth did they do to his poor boy?
“It’s okay, Lou. It’s okay. Tell Daddy what’s wrong, darling. What’s happened?” He asked anxiously, smoothing a palm down his trembling back and holding him close, whispering softly to the distraught boy.

Summary
Wang Yibo is famously bad with horror movies, especially the haunted kind. So, when it turns out that his own new apartment might be haunted by an actual real-life ghost, very much outside of a horror movie, he is ready to assume that the universe is playing a cruel joke on him.
Except, this ghost is very different from the ones depicted in such media. Very ironically, that ends up making it all the more cruel, somehow, especially as the question arises: can you fall in love with someone who isn't really there?
