Dennis knows a few things about Emma. She wears pink Nike's, she's Dana's favorite, she wears her hair in a tight bun or two twin braids. She drinks tea and takes smoke breaks with Dana even though she doesn't smoke.
He knows currently she is on the bed of North 12 drenched in cold saline in her underwear, pressing a towel to her bleeding shin. And for some reason Park the Shark is staring at them like they were prey.

She's wiping at her face with her hands. It's futile. He pulls up outside her building, and she's already reaching for the door handle with her dripping hand. She leaves behind a shiny wet spot. He turns off the car and reaches for his door as well.
Emma stares at him as he rounds the hood of his car toward her. “I'm—”
He doesn't know what she planned to say. Just pulls her close. Use my fucking shirt, he thinks, cupping the back of her head. Christ, he's lost it. But he's already here. So he presses her face to his chest so her tears soak into cotton. He'll wash it when he gets home. They were his tears anyway. He caused them, and he always cleans up his own messes.

Emma Nolan studied hard, graduated from her accelerated nursing programme, and joined the PTMC staff less than a month later. She loves being an omega, and she loves being a nurse. She learns quickly that balancing the two is close to impossible.
In the end, it all comes down to this: an alpha scents an omega who reminds him of home, and he hasn’t had a home in a very, very long time.
