Summary
The classes at Wammy’s had taught them a lot of things that, even to this day, Matt still didn’t understand the value of.
The names of different pantheons from religions all over the world, for starters. The meanings of different works written by various literary bullshitters. Dead languages that hardly anyone spoke or knew anymore. Historical figures of little to no importance. Titbits of knowledge that most of them would probably only ever encounter at a pub quiz, if they were lucky.
As he treated Mello’s injuries however, his fingers steady and precise in a way they only ever were when he was enjoying the adrenaline rush of hacking into a particularly challenging system, Matt found himself feeling grateful for having been taught basic wound care, and for having bothered to remember the general gist of it. Out of all things he could have possibly remembered, he was glad it had been that.

Or: My take on the post-explosion Matt and Mello reunion, in which Matt gets to be just a little bitter, Mello tries to be a better person (emphasis on tries), and their communication skills are...surprisingly adequate at least half of the time.
