There was a moment of what Viktor assumed was comfortable silence. But then Jayce was pulling back. He adjusted, moving to face Viktor, and before panic could set it, Jayce put a hand on his shoulder and leaned in to press his forehead to Viktor’s.
“I’m going to push it.” He gave Viktor’s shoulder a squeeze and pulled his head back to meet the other’s eyes. “I love you, Viktor. And I’m gonna love you out loud. Every day. For the rest of our lives.” His smile quirked up on the one side and Viktor’s heart skipped. “I’m on your side. And we’re going to fight fate together, partner.”
Or - Jayce and Viktor are best friends. And then they're something more. Or, so Viktor thinks...

Summary
On their very first day at Piltover Academy, all students, as part of their orientation, are given a class of Detailed Note-Taking. It is impressed upon them that in regards to their own work, and to aid their peers in accessing their research, their notes must clearly show their aims, methods, and conclusions.
With this in mind, Jayce Talis, Piltover's Golden Boy, has a research project that he is keen to begin. He has his trusty notebook ready, a subject to obsess over, and he's definitely got an aim in mind.

Summary
Jayce was staring at the wall when Viktor found him, stubble already overgrown, hair shorn. He looked broken, fragile. A lost little boy thrown to wolves. Viktor had the ridiculous urge to pull him close, stroke his hair, and let him fall asleep in his lap, safe from harm. He didn’t know the man, only his journal.
“I hope I am not interrupting,” Viktor said, halfway between the dark humor of his home and Piltover politeness.
Jayce’s hazel eyes swung to him, bloodshot and puffy. He shook his head once, slowly, as if he were ashamed. The urge to cradle him grew stronger, a living thing in his chest.
Jayce is thrown into Stillwater after his experiment kills a teenage girl. Viktor finds his journal and becomes obsessed, retreating to Zaun to continue his work with the help of his old mentor. It only takes seven years of obsessive work and a jailbreak to reunite them.

His sponsor’s eyes made 0516 rub his wrists, digging the fingernail over and over, until it bled in the shape of an upside-down shepherd’s crook. Favourite shape. He didn’t like to disappoint. He didn’t know if he liked or disliked his sponsor, but sometimes, rare times, special times, he told 0516 he did a good job."
Viktor buys Jayce to be part of his work with Doctor Reveck. When watching Jayce as an experiment becomes too painful, they escape.
