Brady’s fingers twitch at his sides, aching to do something: to hold a yoke, to button up a flight suit, to feel the cool brass of an instrument beneath his fingers. There’s a half a dozen smokes in his jacket pocket, almost burning a hole through the fabric with their weight, but he doesn’t reach for them. There’s precious little anything here, let alone cigarettes, and he’s determined to save them. Why? Because he’s disciplined and though he yearns for the pleasant burn of smoke down his throat, he has some self-control.
