"How old are you?" Lan Wangji said as he asked the question through chords.
Wei Ying's stomach dropped to his toes. The feeling coursing through him was sickeningly familiar. In the Burial Mounds, he fought tooth and nail to keep the spirits out of his head. Whenever they'd get too close, his skin crawled, and it felt like he were a puppet being pulled along by strings. Now, a lighter, less malicious energy prodded him; it was gentle but not merciful. It reached its hand down his throat and stole words from his lips before he could think to stop it.
"Eighteen!"
