Buck was actually in the Navy SEALS for a year or two, before getting an injury that puts him out of commission and has him discharged, but that injury didn't stop him from joining the 118. Getting a surprise from the appearance of an army Medic who'd saved his ass when he lost his leg, which he now has a prosthetic for. Walk through the doors into the firehouse.

Taking one hand off the wheel, Eddie reaches for the dash and twists the fan dial to max. It whines in response, but there’s a slight increase in too-warm airflow.
Buck uncaps a water bottle and offers it to him. “Y’know, I don’t think we thought this through."
It was cool when they set out this morning, but now the sun is high in the sky and beating down relentlessly. Eddie chugs half the bottle, then passes it back so he can crank the window down a final inch. It doesn’t help. He wants to ditch his sweater like Buck has, but he doesn’t dare take both hands off the wheel at once, no matter how straight the road.
“Well, I wanted to ride to your rescue in a luxury sedan, but this piece of shit tin can was all they had.”

Somewhere west of the Arizona-New Mexico state line, things shift.
