Summary
“So, Merlin,” Arthur says, and leans forward. Despite having climbed a tower that’s taller than the Big Ben, he doesn’t have a lock of hair out of place. Merlin despises him for that, a little bit. “What are you currently doing in a tower that seems to have no entrance and does have a large dragon on top, which really, that doesn’t help with being perceived as a princess, you’re aware?”
“How did you get past Kilgharrah?” Merlin wonders.
“Dragons sleep too, Merlin.”
Or: Merlin has stuck himself in a tower in a desperate attempt to make himself focus on his dissertation. A lot of knights seem to be under the impression that this makes him a princess in need of rescue, but fail to climb all the way up—that is, until Arthur.

“So let me get this straight,” Arthur said, folding his fingers together as the man in front him awkwardly shifted. “You are under the impression if you win the favor of my servant that you will then win my favor?” he asked and the nobleman shifted again.
“Well, sire,” he said “That is the common consensus among… the chatter.”
“The chatter,” Arthur repeated and his mind flashed to all the kindness Merlin had received from other nobles. Dear God.
Or
Merlin has all of Camelot (and neighboring kingdoms) wrapped around his finger and Arthur is beginning to resign himself to the fact his servant somehow has more power than he does.

Summary
“It’s snowing.” Merlin's voice is just above a whisper, eyes sparkling and hands gripping the window sill, the cold walls tug at his threads of magic. Merlin presses his face against the glass, eyes watching closely as the snow dances in the air through the window panes.
“It’s cold Merlin.” King’s do not whine, but Arthur does. “Come back to bed, we’ll sleep the day away.”
Merlin shakes his head and turns to face his husband, tilting his head to the side and surveying his King’s sleep rustled hair. “Come on love, up.”
He waves his hand, and the quilt pulls back and attaches itself to the bottom of the bed.
“I’ll have you flogged.” It is an empty threat.
Merlin shakes his head and crosses to the wardrobe, “No you won’t.”
Arthur sighs, “No I won’t.” It’s softly spoken. He stands and pulls the blanket around his shoulders to act like a cloak.
