Summary
The memories had to be fake.
When Light touches the Death Note and the memories of his time as Kira return, he cannot accept they are true. What kind of monster could take joy from slaughtering millions? They must have been sent by Kira to distract him! Light swears he will execute the real Kira if it's the last thing he ever does.
Meanwhile, L is wondering why his favorite killer seems to no longer want him dead.

As L watches, the man extracts a twittering phone from his pocket and pitches it calmly into the river below.
He's not sure what makes him speak. L’s never been one to make idle chit-chat with strangers. Still, he finds himself opening his mouth to call, “In denial?”The man half-turns at the sound of his voice. He has a sweet smile. “In the Sumida, actually,” he calls back cheerfully.
