    Summary

Library assistant Hob Gadling has been working at a university library for a few years now. He's happy, or, to be precise, he has no reason to be unhappy.

But then Dream Olympiou, freshly hired subject librarian, stirs up the sleepy reading rooms and Hob's life with a personality that leaves much to be desired and a body that's got fine written all over it.

Hob is in for an adventure long overdue, including misunderstandings, shushed feelings, and checked out brains (and arses).

    “There has been. A complication.”
    “What sort of complication?”
    A pause.
“My siblings have realised you are my consort.”
“Ah,” Hob says, in the moment it takes him to fully process the words. Then, “What do you mean, realised?!”

In which Dream must share Hob with his family for an evening, and does not understand all the feelings this inspires. (They have sex about it)

    Bookmarker's Notes

Hob strokes a hand up and down Dream’s sweaty back as his pace increases again, his legs clamping tighter around his waist, his cock hardening between them once more. It’s slower this time, Dream driving Hob to his peak more gradually, so when it comes he falls harder and for longer, shaking and spasming around him until he’s almost sobbing with it.

    ...

But still, Dream continues. He turns Hob over onto his back, settling in the cradle of his thighs. Hob clings to him, shaking like a leaf, his thighs solid and warm under Dream's hands. Every thrust leaves Hob twitching and moaning, breath coming out in sobs. Dream kisses him, licking along the seam of his lips, coaxing his way into Hob's mouth.

"D-Dream," Hob says between hiccuping sobs, slurring his words. "N-no more, love, I c-can't anymore."

"Just one more, Hob." Dream hides his face in damp, sweaty hair, inhaling his musky scent. "Just for me. I know you can give me one more."

    ...

Dream's hand moves between his thighs to slide inside of him, fingers easily slipping into the mess there. Hob whimpers, eyes pressed tightly closed, thighs twitching. Too exhausted to close his legs and deny Dream.

"Do not fret, my heart. I'm only cleaning you out."

    Bookmarker's Notes

“...Does it ever stop hurting?” Orpheus’ voice cracked as he asked the question, hoarse from the tears.

“...Not really. It’s…Ok. Picture you have a bouncy ball inside a box, right? Every time the ball touches the walls of the box, you feel the pain. Right now? The box is only just big enough for the ball to exist in. Every time it moves, it touches the walls. But…as time goes on, the box expands. Soon, just existing isn’t going to hurt anymore, but every so often, the ball bounces off the wall. And it hurts just as much as it originally did. But the ball also stops being in contact with the wall quicker. The hurt doesn’t last as long as it used to. For me, the box for my Ell is pretty damn big now. Most days I can think about her and just be happy about it. But every once in a while…it still hurts. It’ll be the same for you, too.” The metaphor was a damned good one–shamelessly stolen from the grief counselor he’d seen as a condition of keeping Robyn. That metaphor was about the only thing he’d taken from those sessions, but at least it could serve him well again.

Morpheus Oneiros Aeturnus does not often attend PTA meetings. He pays Lucienne enough for that. But when he does choose to attend them, he plays to win.

Hob finds this out, which gives his imagination far too much to work with.
