  Summary

  Gloria wasn't a naive woman, she knew this city, and knew that nothing in it could be taken for granted. She was doing great. There were hurdles and challenges, David had been hanging with people he shouldn't have, but who could complain about that? She had a job that paid fair, if not in salary, then in... additional benefits. Her son was well fed and dressed, and she hadn't had to skip her meals for a long time, and maybe this wasn't the stuff of dreams, she made it pretty far for a girl from Bumfuck Nowhere, Idaho. And her son, she knew he had it in him, to make it to the very top of the world. He was intelligent beyond his peers, and more importantly, he was angry. In a good way. She thought she had it figured out, and then one trip from the Academy to their home, took that illusion away. Some goons with a death wish, corpo limo, and their wheels in the crossfire. There was a lot of tears, screams, hugs, promises, debts, but now she was alone on couch, staring at the ceiling. Her boy needed her, and now they were due on rent, in medical debt, she was fired from her job, and didn't have a fucking spine. After a few hours, Gloria wasn't staring at the ceiling, she was staring at her jacket, at what was tucked away in it.
