A snort from Yosano. “Coming from you? Wouldn’t expect less.”
The TV turns on, a mechanical whir kicking to life as the screen flickers.

Summary
Physical touch has never been a kind thing to Dazai. He can’t count the number of times he’s been slapped, punched, kicked, stabbed, shot, etc. etc.
He definitely can’t count the number of times he’s been hugged. Or held. Or even have a soft, gentle, caring hand on him. Sure, he’s had semiplayful physical exchanges with Chuuya, has held him in his arms after Corruption, but that doesn’t count. Neither did the times Chuuya or Odasaku stitched up his arms and held him through panic attacks and dissociative episodes.
Those were just moments of weakness. Moments that should never and will never happen if he has a say in it.
But apparently, the world doesn’t give a damn about what Dazai Osamu wants.

Summary
Dazai finds beauty in pain. He finds beauty in the sharpness of his nerves as his skin slices open. He finds beauty in the way crimson blood bubbles and trickles down his arms, thighs, chest. He finds beauty in the way his windpipe is crushed, collapsing, under the strength of the rope. He finds beauty in the way his lungs tighten and spasm from water entering them instead of oxygen.
He finds beauty in it all.
What he doesn’t find beauty in is the stark white bandages covering his body. Hiding all the pain—all the beauty—he’s created on himself.

Summary
Dazai’s first stuffed animal was a raggedy little thing. It was messily handstitched with mismatched pieces of cloth; some legs not quite as filled as the others. The eyes were two different-sized buttons, and the smile wasn’t straight.

He hadn’t expected the brunette to ever want to try considering how much it has become a coping mechanism. Despite his initial shock, however, Chuuya couldn’t say no, and he’s been helping Dazai in any way he can ever since.

Summary
When he thinks back on it now, what Dazai remembers the most is how listless he was. He hadn’t cried. He hadn’t felt anything. It had felt more like following a line of thought to its natural conclusion—what happens if I do this?
He remembers the sensation registering dimly, more pressure than pain at first, and the strange disappointment when it didn’t immediately turn into something bigger, something clarifying. He remembers the blood, too, sticky and warm and everywhere.
The adults around him had panicked in a way that made no sense to him, voices rising, hands shaking, someone yelling his name like it mattered. Dazai had watched it all from a careful distance, mildly confused by the urgency, wondering why this was what finally made them react.
or: Rain makes it worse. The migraines leave Dazai half-blind, nauseous, and barely verbal. Chuuya comes to yell at him and instead finds something he wasn’t supposed to see.
