I will never show you such cruelty, Elisabeta. Such a long name. I will call you Elisa, for short.” He runs his long, spidery fingers through your curls. You shudder. He notices this, but doesn’t comment on it.
“Did you… kill him?” you whisper.
“No,” he says. “But many times, I came close to it. No. And I forgave him in the end. I did. I forgave the man, you see, for he was weak and human and he did what he thought was best. He had no idea how to father his creation. But I have learned from his mistakes. And while I forgave him, I cannot forgive him for denying me a companion. That is why I made you.”
