Summary
Regina’s fingers curl around the fluttering heart, still buried deep within the woman in front of her. She hesitates at the steady ba-bump ba-bump ba-bump rhythm it carries out. Unchanging even when Regina flexes. Her eyes lock with this new, incomprehensible foe: a bizarre creature who dares meet Regina’s gaze with steely determination even in the face of imminent death.
“Okay,” the woman says. Soft, but resolute. She staggers forward into Regina, features pained but open in something like tenderness.
And when their foreheads fall together, Regina marvels at the realization that for the first time in her life, she’s holding a heart devoid of fear.
“Maybe it’s time for a new tactic, huh?”

A Swan Queen-focused re-imagining of the 4x07 - 4x09 arc because, as much as I loved Gay Elsa, bringing Emma back to herself and in control of her magic should have been done by Regina.
On top of all the Swan Queen, plenty of Swan-Mills Family feels abound.
"Regina clenched her jaw, tried to look more annoyed than the fear she felt. Eventually all she could do was slowly reach out and press her palm to Emma’s. It felt like fire, hot but not painful, like closing a circuit; the flow of nervous electricity. And then Emma braided her long fingers with Regina’s and in the tapestry of their knuckles, everything else disappeared."

Set soon after Normal [Monsters], and while I don't think it's entirely necessary to have read that first - hey, it could be fun! This is a little darker, and maybe a little dirtier. Best to presume spoilers for all of 4a.

Don’t let the unfinished status or the length put you off. This is fantastic and stands up quite well just as it is. Gorgeous characterisations in a delightfully smutty study of two flawed human beings finding that their ragged edges match up like the last two pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. If these two are already your blorbos, give this a read. You’ll enjoy it. If you’re new to this pairing, understand that this fic is better written than the show.
