Steve makes a face at Eddie. “You've imagined doing stuff with a guy?”
“Yeah, man,” Eddie replies, spreading his hands wide. “Doesn't everyone?”
Steve tilts his head to the side as he thinks. Maybe not very often, but his freshman year when Davey Riggs had been swim team captain? Yeah, he had definitely imagined some stuff that had made trips to the locker room kinda awkward.
“Yeah, that's true,” Steve answers, nodding. “I wonder why everybody acts like it's so gross, though.”
In the summer of 1986, Steve and Eddie have some perfectly normal fun between a couple of perfectly normal dudes.

Summary
Love takes time, multiple events connected to lead up to one big thing, like a fuse, leading on and on until it goes boom. Freddy and Lassen were coworkers, obviously working together led to them getting closer, though he didn't realize how close they would end up becoming. Joined by the vulgarity of sailing, the chaos of war, and a closeness that only great danger brought had engulfed the crew, but Freddy and Lassen were different.
Freddy and Lassen enjoyed the friendly banter of coworkers, but that's all it could really be. Freddy was clever, he would be able to work out if his new friend had been feeling anything less than friendly, though apparently not more.
Freddy's stupid, Lassen's also stupid, both are exhausted war waging dudes with their own hopes and fears. Aka a slow-burn of Freddy and Lassen over three weeks where the "I do like to hunt" scene is where Freddy realize what Lassen means.

Before Eddie registered what he was doing, Steve spread his ass cheeks and spat. It smattered his balls, dribbling down, and his eyes rolled back, toes curling.
“Fuck, Steve.”
“What did you say that time you told me to spit in your mouth?” Steve asked distractedly, thumbing the glob to spread it around his hole. “Gotta get you all nasty and wet so you’re ready for me.”
“Jesus H. Christ. You remember that?”
The snap of the lube cap sounded somewhere out of sight, and Steve’s tongue tucked between his teeth in concentration. There was a warm, slick touch at Eddie’s hole as Steve said, “I remember all of it.”
Eddie doesn't get what he expects out of movie night, but the morning after more than makes up for it.

It’s dripping blood onto the floor.
‘Shit,’ Steve says, takes a single step back, swallows. ‘Eddie, I’m so sorry, fuck.’
Eddie can’t seem to look away, can’t bring his ethereal gaze back up where it belongs. Steve thinks he should run, he should flee. A tiny part of him knows Eddie will chase him. Eddie will catch him, outrun him easily.
It's more than a little fucked up how that thrills him.
