The problem was that the new object of his affection was Herbert West. Not that he was a man as Dan had had more than his share of experiences with them. Not that they were roommates and hooking up would make this awkward. No, Herbert was more likely to reject Dan outright for lack of interest in sex at all.
And he was also the literal definition of a mad scientist, his pursuit to conquer death all consuming. Herbert simply did not have time for anything else.

Summary
Five years after the Miskatonic Massacre, Daniel Cain is confident that he'll never see the likes of Herbert West or his reagent again. That suits him just fine. He hates the guy for what he did. One day, he receives a patient fresh off a suicide attempt whose bloodwork reminds Dan of days filled with glowing vials and corpse violence. Astonished, Dan unwillingly finds Herbert a part of his life again.
As Herbert recuperates, something ominous lurks over Arkham: a strange monster, killing at random and making off with body parts. Herbert and Dan are reminded of just how well they suit one another as they both work to stop the creature ... before there's nobody left for organ donation.

Summary
Hurrying back to him, Herbert stumbled on a stray cord and bumped against Dan’s chest, and Dan caught him by his upper arms.
“Careful with that, careful!” Dan said, as droplets of the re-agent he carried splattered onto his shirt. “Jesus, Herbert.”
Looking up at him, Herbert said, “I have an idea.”
“Can it wait?” Dan said, trying to take the beaker out of Herbert’s hands, to put it aside. “Let’s go upstairs, let’s - oh God, what are you-?”
