    He felt her exhale, a shaky release of tension. Slowly, he lowered his hand from her mouth, letting it slide to her shoulder. She turned in the circle of his arm, eyes wide—but not with fear. With something breathless and thrilling. The alley was a canyon of brick and shadow, secluded, yet the dull hum of the city pressed in just yards away. When a car door slammed in the distance, they both froze.
