Elim Garak, recently promoted as Deputy Head of the Obsidian Order under Pythas Lok, begins the delicate work of unraveling damage done to intelligence agencies around the quadrant by changeling infiltrators, seven of whom remain unaccounted for (if the Vorta are to be believed).
Julian Bashir, having begun medical studies on Bajor the year prior, enters medical school on Cardassia Prime.
Starfleet struggles to control the Maquis, whose numbers have surged after hundreds of Jem'Hadar and Vorta were granted political asylum and are being housed in the demilitarized zone.

I cannot say that it is entirely necessary to have read the first two installments, which are lengthy, but since this is an AU, I do recommend it because this begins right in the thick of things.

It’s genuinely very handy being the only endotherm on a planet populated entirely by ectotherms. Except for when it causes misunderstandings. Misunderstandings that could have been easily avoided if someone had simply explained things before they got to this point, Garak.
