This whole thing was a culmination of mistakes and shitty luck, but it still felt like it was his fault. He should've ordered a report sooner, should've checked the inventory himself, should've started looking for a new supplier more aggressively—should've done everything differently than he had.
Maybe he could find some way to fix this, or at least help them weather the storm until they could order more bullets, Geoffrey thought to himself, his hand closing around one of the small brass keys in his pocket.

Reid had felt true fear on the front before, but never since his turning—not even Priwen and the epidemic had caused him this much dread. He'd had night terrors like this before, trapped in a small cell below the surface or back in the pit of corpses, something his death-like sleep couldn't even protect him from. Now, it felt like Reid was living out his worst nightmare, this room conjured from his subconscious specifically to torment him, but at least unlike in his dreams, he wasn't alone.

“Can I help you, miss?” Geoffrey asked, the woman's black hair vaguely familiar in the dim light of the street lamps, but he couldn't quite put his finger on where he'd seen her before, not until she opened her mouth to speak.
“Mister McCullum!” Mary exclaimed, her piercing blue eyes lighting up as he opened the door, tear tracks still tacky on her cheeks, “have you seen my brother?” The question sent a sliver of unease through the hunter's heart, one that mixed with the reddened skin around Jonathan's sister's eyes and churned unpleasantly in his gut.
Or, Jonathan's return to London goes a bit differently.

He was the leader of Priwen, the greatest hunter of his generation—there was no way he was going to die like this. However, McCullum felt dizzy and weak, his consciousness attempting to flee from his battered brain, and it took almost all his willpower just to stay awake. No one would come looking for him for hours, and by then it would be too late. He had to do something.

Memories popped into his head like bubbles coming off of soap. Laying on a freezing table of questionable cleanliness with an FX-6 hovering overhead while a sedative washed through his system. A friendly 2-1B stitching a cut in his arm while his mom tucked him into her side. A decidedly unfriendly IT-O steadily approaching the corner he was locked into, its instruments an unspoken certainty.

Which is when his brain catches up with what he's just done. To wit: tackled Reid to his own living room floor and is now straddling his hips with his hands braced over his head. Geoff kind of wants to scream.
