“No, I don’t think I will,” she plays it off, turning her head to look away. She makes eye contact with Joel, who looks moments away from bursting out laughing. “You couldn’t survive if I used my full power, and I quite like having my Evening wife around, thank you very much.”
“Oh, of course,” Etho says, and Gem throws up a hand.
“Excuse me, my wife is speaking to me.”
“And your husband can’t chip in?” Etho shoots back, amused more than offended, and Joel finally cracks up in giggles. “Are you hearing this, Joel? It’s like she doesn’t appreciate us!”
“I don’t,” Gem agrees.
