    Mankind is dead. Hell is breathing its last. The final remnants of creation are crumbling like clay. No more blood. No more light. Gabriel and V1 are all that remain, and by tomorrow they'll both be dead.
    V1 could kill him now. Buy itself another few hours before it dies of starvation in an empty Hell. But even to a war machine bent on survival, the idea is bleak.
    And Gabriel... Gabriel is struggling with mortality, Catholic guilt, and the fact that he wants this machine to fuck him so bad it makes him look stupid.

    There’s one thing one must know about Hermes.

    Well- there’s many things- many many things—

    But the most important thing one must know is that Hermes. Doesn’t. Wait.

    He doesn’t. Or… tries not too. He despises waiting. He is- after all- the god of swiftness. The Divine Messenger. And one can imagine his job is very very hectic- and very very important-

    And- all things considered—

    He can’t afford to wait.

    There is always a letter to be sent- parcels to be delivered- notes to be passed- messages to be orated- always a place to be-

     

    Gods forbid he run late!

     

    All of that aside and if he were given the option— Hermes probably- most likely- almost certainly- wouldn’t have taken his most recent promotion should he have known it required waiting.

    Optimization is V1’s specialty. From projectile punching to explosion-propelled feats of acceleration, V1 was made to make itself better: faster. To achieve maximum performance, it opts to optimize its energy usage. A more efficient source of biofuel may exist—but V1 needs a means to extract it. A particular peripheral used by Mindflayers seems promising.

    V1 intends to test it on Gabriel. There must be something better than blood.
