“Sorry,” he whispers. Third time’s the charm, right? Maybe it’ll keep Armand from ripping his head clean off and finally sucking him dry. Not in the sexy way. Okay, yeah, still kind of in a sexy way, but Daniel would really prefer to not die today.
“Don’t be,” Armand says, his voice way too light, way too casual. He is petting Daniel’s thigh almost absentmindedly, like one might pet an animal they know is helpless without them. “I can be your Alice, if you want me to be.”
Oh. Oh, hell.
Daniel accidentally calls Armand Alice in bed. Things escalate from there.

Daniel’s whole body has relaxed, moulding itself to the chair. The look on his face is painfully sweet, it reminds Armand of Riccardo; stumbling drunkenly on the cobbled street as he glances over his shoulder at his companion.

Summary
Daniel didn’t know the history of the bath, but he probably would someday.
One day, his curiosity would get the better of him and he’d go digging to find the fossilised pieces of Armand’s past and start putting them together like palaeontologists do with dinosaur bones. And like them he wouldn’t get it right first try but it’s not like he would stop trying.
And the narrative where Armand was upset by the bath made more sense.
The actual fact, that Armand was sure of, was that he could have gone through with the bath and given Daniel no clues at all about any of his prior experiences if Daniel hadn’t asked Armand to affirm that he wanted it.
That had been the distressing part.

OR: Daniel treats Armand nicely enough that Armand starts wondering if the way people treated him in the past wasn't good enough.

Summary
“Our original anniversary, Daniel,” Armand says, kissing him again, “is the fourth of September, nineteen-seventy-three.”
Daniel grabs his hips, stilling him where he’s been gently grinding. “Hang on a sec.”
Armand sits up, a little peeved, his hands on Daniel’s chest, blinking down at him. “What?”
“You consider that to be our anniversary?” Daniel asks, huffing a disbelieving laugh.
“Well, yes. That was the day we met after all. Although technically you could say it was the night before, when I saw you in Polynesian Mary’s and you looked at me like I was something to eat but—”
Daniel presses two fingers to Armand’s lips to halt his rambling. “The night you took over my body and started torturing me? That’s our anniversary?”
Armand sticks his tongue out and licks his fingers. Daniel curses and pulls them away, but out of surprise, as opposed to disgust. Armand knows that Daniel rather enjoys it when he licks him.
“Our original anniversary, yes,” Armand confirms. “Although, we have many.”
