Rose’s body was as soft as always, as familiar as it could be. Her smile was warm, sweet; she looked at him the way she often did, as if Shane were someone special. Shane was hot. The air was suffocating, the strobe lights too bright. Someone had spilled a drink on him, and he could still smell alcohol clinging to his clothes. Rose slipped one arm around his neck, smiling, then the other.

Summary
The purposefully boring reaction died on his tongue the second he saw the picture on the screen. He hadn’t even read the headline yet, too nervous to find out what it could be saying. Because on the screen in front of him was the cocky face of Ilya Rozanov and, if Shane was not completely mistaken, it appeared he was sat in an Ottawa Centaurs jersey.
“What the fuck is going on?” Shane hissed, eyes bulging in a way that he was sure would have been comical if his whole world wasn’t caving in on him again. Ilya Rozanov was meant to be gone forever. That was the agreement he had assumed they had come to when he had run off to Russia without a single text and had never been in contact again.

OR: Two years after Ilya Rozanov mysteriously left Boston mid-contract to return to the Russian league, he has returned under equally mysterious circumstances. Shane wants nothing more than to pretend he is still an ocean away, if only Ilya would let him.

Set at the 2018 Olympics, because it makes the most sense for Shane and Ilya’s timeline. Plus I dont want my sweet baby Angel Ilya living in the US in 2026. So it’s set back then, but taking everything that has happened with Team USA/White House in 2026.

Summary
His pulse quickened when he finally glanced at the text preview. Lily. Shane hesitated before opening it, wondering what snarky comment or innuendo he’d find this time. Perhaps a dig at his piss poor performance on the ice today, although Rozanov hadn’t played much better. More likely, some embarrassingly filthy remark that would make Shane’s insides twist up and his eyes dart nervously across the locker room to check if his teammates had noticed the way his body reacted– always reacted– to any suggestion of the man. Or maybe just a room number, as they sometimes sent.
The answer was a punch to the gut.
Lily: Can I see you tonight? Please.
Or: Shane and Ilya haven't spoken since the tuna melts. But what if one of them had texted after the game but before the club scene?
