Summary
Read GutterBall's fantastic fic 'The Little Shatterdome Around the Corner', which convinced me to ship Chuck and Raleigh, and in the process was inspired to write this.
Chuck and Raleigh are matched as mentor/mentee buddies while at the Academy, semi-anonymously, and fall in love while waiting to meet up when Chuck graduates. Only, Knifehead happens. And everything falls apart.
Only, by pure coincidence, they start messaging again fully anonymously on a Kaiju-loss forum.
And then Raleigh's recalled for Pitfall.
And Chuck and Raleigh are made to drift.

Compared to Mako’s precise ocean of a mind, Chuck’s is a colossal shitstorm of daddy issues and grandiose views of self-importance. His neural grip is like holding hands with someone who doesn’t know how to let go. It’s way above Raleigh’s pay grade and his ‘has-been ass’ wants no part of it.
