Summary
Mac's 6 when he gets his first mark, a dark green line across his palm. The mark itself was nothing special, just a thick green line, drawn haphazardly across the majority of his right palm. As if the artist had missed the paper they were drawing on and continued on their hand. Still, Mac held his palm up like it was the most precious thing on Earth.

Summary
“I’ve been thinking about dying.” The words leave him before he realises how insane they sound. Look at him; the descendant of a long line of warriors, strong and powerful, rulers who fought for his people. Look at him; wallowing in bed, dreaming of dying. Perhaps Erebor is better out of his hands.
Bilbo, to his credit, looks significantly less bewildered than Thorin had expected him to. Worried, more so, but not totally bewildered. He’s changed, Thorin thinks. The old Bilbo would have probably said alright then and found a polite way to end the conversation. Instead, this one just says, “Okay.”
(back in the shire, post-battle. recovery is hard. thorin is still learning how to handle it.)

Summary
For all that fire lends Gimli's hair and beard a lovely glow, it pains Legolas to see the same fire consume so much of what grows and lives. However, he is somewhat thoughtless in his words when he voices this, leading to Gimli drawing entirely the wrong conclusions. Legolas may need something more than mere words to make up for his error.
Even next to the forges of Erebor, nothing warms him quite like Gimli's smile.
