Summary
In Chapter IV at Bullworth Academy, Gary has a secret, and it only comes up as a ridiculous rumor wrongfully dismissed. It is not his only secret either: sure, he thinks Pete is cute and maybe gets a bit turned on by him, but that’s not nearly as compromising as what he is truly hiding.
Pete’s homosexuality isn’t much of a secret. When Gary finds him at a compromising moment, he decides to have some fun with him, and with his Halloween costume's weapon: the riding crop.
Pete is wrong to assume the encounter would make Gary any nicer to him, not even giving him a break before using Algie as a pawn to humiliate him further. Though, the encounter does make it a bit harder for Gary to keep his hands off him, risking prompting Pete to act upon his wish to reciprocate this touch and uncover his secret.
