Summary
“Steven,” he says, slurs, maybe, a little at the end, “I am so deeply apologetic for the way I kicked your ass when we fought five years ago.”
Steve is close enough in his beanbag that he can swat Jonathan’s outstretched hand away.
“I’m seriously not mad about it. Or like, not at you. I just mean like—you, Billy, the demobats, the—” Steve’s voice trails off, distant for a second, like he was going to say something else and then decided not to. “All I’m saying is, it’s a long line of people who have beaten my ass. I have a jaded interest in trying not to add to it.”
Jonathan rolls his head over—feels how heavy it is, enjoys it, the looseness of it all—and narrows his eyes at Steve, who is looking at him plaintively. He has a sense of where this was going, and no real desire to follow it there, but he’s too damn tired and too grateful for Steve’s quiet home and good pot and newfound friendship to fully dig his heels in about it.
“Teach me,” Steve pleads, hands clasped for effect. “Jonathan Byers, teach me how to not get my ass kicked anymore.”
OR: Jonathan teaches Steve how to take a punch, and it goes very poorly, for both involved.

Summary
“What do we do if this is my fault? As, like, a company. If this is my fault, what do we do. Sorry. Uh. Just—you know. Call if you can.”
He hangs up. He calls Gerri again. He leaves another message.
“About Dad. Sorry. Clearly, I have obviously been, like, drinking. As you would. Old Scots tradition! But yeah, uh—what do we do if I killed Dad? Please advise. Professionally. Thanks.”

Summary
“I’ve got to go to her,” Jamie says. “It’s...it’s my fault. Sorry. I have to go, coach.”
Roy nods his head to the first part before he registers the second, but by then it’s too late, and he’s no idea how to say that it isn’t without reminding Jamie whose fault that it actually is, and the idea of doing that—acknowledging, in front of everyone, now, that this is his fault, that Jamie or his Mum would get hurt, that they would lose this fucking match, all because of the decision that Roy made—makes the acid in his throat threaten to eat a hole straight out of it.
It’s a compromise, in the end, something that soothes both his guilt and his shame.
“Alright,” he says, firmly, “But I’m coming with you.”
OR: When Jamie's worried about how his father's presence will affect his playing at the Man City match, Roy has the bright idea to keep him out of the stadium entirely. Things get personal anyway.

Summary
Bucky stares unblinkingly up at the ceiling. Watches the hypnotic shadows of the fan going ‘round and ‘round. “My life, when it gets picked apart – and it gets picked apart a lot nowadays, often to my face – falls into three very tidy chapters. Howling Commando; Winter Soldier; What Came After.”
“Little more to it than that,” Sam acknowledges.
It’s quiet for a minute while Bucky counts them out, and eventually he comes up with, “Nine. I make nine distinctive eras of my life.”
