He’ll figure it out, he always does, he just has to get through the rest of his shift and not break down. He’s worked too hard, sacrificed too much, to throw it all away for something out of his control. “Um, my dad is gonna die and I won’t be there.”
"I'm going on leave starting tomorrow. I could do Nebraska. I’ll take you.”

Dennis' father is dying a thousand miles away, and with the grace of God, shaped in the way of his attending, he goes home one more time.

"A doctor in his fifties that can’t handle the small life he’s led, even that is too much for him, too big. He wants to give it all to someone else, someone far more capable, more charismatic and smarter, just long enough so that he can sleep and try to forget about all of the wrong turns he’s made."
Dr. Robby doesn't get better after that first panic attack, spiraling down into his breaking point, but Dennis is right there to pick him back up, just like he did in that make shift morgue. He's there for all the tears and everything after.

Maybe Sukuna isn’t wrong about that, Fushiguro thinks in a daze. Itadori’s heart is too heavy and too precious. It’s a burden that shouldn’t be given to anyone else. Because even Itadori himself can’t take care of it, can’t hold onto it for the life of him because he’d rather become the vessel to the most wretched of all curses just to help two people he’s only known for a few months—to help Fushiguro, who he’d only met that night.
(I can keep it. Fushiguro’s hands move. I can hold onto it, if you want.)
Maybe Sukuna’s definition of ruin wasn’t all that wrong from what Fushiguro wanted after all. Maybe that did make him just as wretched.
But if Itadori was still willing to stay beside him, despite knowing that—

“Satoru?” The word rings, fuzzy in his ears as it whines like tinnitus, familiar and heart stopping.
‘I’m dead.’ He can’t even hear his own thoughts over the loudness of the world, staggering where he stands, eyes still fixated on the sky, on the sun. ‘I’m dead, I died, I felt my heart stop, this can’t be, it can’t-’
“Hey,” it comes again, a little more urgent than before, a little closer, another hammer to his ears and all the noise shrieking behind his eyes. He recoils hard enough to go stumbling as a hand reaches for him, covered in flesh rather than empty bone, tan and recognizable. Unbelievable.
There’s something wet trickling from his nose. Bile stings on the back of his tongue. The words dissolve into the rest of the white noise as he stares up at the blue of the sky, and tries to remember if he’d ever had a hallucination as bright as this.
‘I have to be dead,’ he thinks. Somehow, he isn’t.
Or: Gojo Satoru goes back in time. He makes a couple of changes for the better.
