McCoy shakes his head and laughs. “Don’t get ahead of yourself, kid.” He has to stop for a moment at the comfort of just talking to another person. He takes a breath. Dangerous he reminds himself, and Jim’s eyes tell a different story. The eyes and smile of someone who has everything figured out. “So what do you do, now that you’ve wiggled yourself into my dark past?”
Jim takes a long gulp of his latte and shrugs. “Who knows,” he says. “I’m a freelance writer.” It sounds like a lie and he grins. “Or maybe I’m an editor. A screenwriter? I could technically be all of those things.”
