Pete can hear the over-dramatic sigh of his son followed by the amused chuckle from his husband and he— eager to rid Venice of his misery while still being simultaneously exhausted from decorating and wrapping presents yesterday— hums and stretches as he rolls over to face the direction the two voices are coming from. When he peels his eyes open, he can’t help but let a small smile adorn his lips.
Vegas lays on his back with his arms around Venice who is sprawled across his chest. Venice is looking directly at Vegas, nose-to-nose, and they seem to be engaged in some sort of staring contest. Whoever wins must get to decide when Pete wakes up. Luckily, they both turn when they hear Pete’s delighted, little chuckle.
“Papa!” exclaims Venice, eyes wide.

Summary
He looked behind him, at the house, that cursed house. Vegas had hurt him in there, had whipped him with a belt just because his father had hit him. Vegas had also held him in there, bandaged those belt wounds, kissed his bound hands as if he was the most precious thing in the world.
Pete had never felt so conflicted.
It took what felt like an eternity, but as the fisherman pulled away from his spot in the water and over to the dock on the other side, Pete slowly turned his back towards freedom and hobbled back the way he came.
