If Shadow's going to be miserable in Rouge's apartment, he might as well be miserable and useful. Rouge enlists him to be her model for some eye makeup, promising that if he hates it, he can take it off, but if he likes it, he can come out with her tonight. She's planning on going to a fancy gallery opening to swipe some unsecured jewelry off of the rich bidders, and maybe enjoy some free snacks while she's there.
And well, Rouge knows damn well that Shadow isn't nearly as opposed to the idea as he seems.Series

Summary
Working for GUN has made Shadow miserable. Resolving to quit, he waits for Rouge at her apartment for some kind of reassurance. However, his intents are immediately derailed when Rouge stumbles home, alone, from the hospital. Shadow drops his problems to help her recover from her top surgery in the days that follow, battling Rouge's reluctance toward vulnerability and his own immediately-complicated feelings about her. (Not in a romantic way, in an "expectation vs reality" kind of way). Neither is ready to be honest with the other about how important their friendship is, but actions speak louder than words.

“Surgery,” Shadow said softly, folding his arms again. “You really want to be left alone? Now? You need to recover.”
Rouge’s gaze narrowed with a sardonic smile. “Thanks for telling me what I already know, Shadow. I can handle it myself.”
“You took care of me while I recovered once,” Shadow said.
Rouge squeezed her eyes shut in thought for a moment, then heaved another sigh and leaned back stiffly.
“Fine. I can make use of an extra pair of hands. And after this, we’ll call it even, you got that?”Series
