Summary
Flying back to Cherry Street, weaving reckless in the dark, it comes down to this: Dick is the only one of his siblings that Jason has any real claim on. Dick is the only one of that whole mess of victims to Batman's cult of self-immolation who belongs to Jason. Even more than that - Dick is the only person in the world who he shares a parent with, who knows what it meant to be the Robin to Batman of nearly ten years ago.
It's just not the same anymore.
So if Dick fucking kicks it, Jason's the only one left. Jason becomes an only child. Jason becomes the last of his kind. Jason becomes the sole keeper of that memory, of a brotherhood shared under a man who no longer exists. There is no way to replace Dick, because the world that they lived in together is gone, and can never give Jason a surrogate.
The Red Hood pulls the thread on a mystery big enough to bridge the distance between two cities, two brothers: The plot they unravel is far deeper and darker than a garden-variety drug trafficking scheme. A story about siblingship, hauntings, and rivers.
1. Ostium, osti(i): Latin noun, II Declension: Door, opening; (river) mouth; entrance (to the underworld).

“Not of the folktales. Who cares about that?” Dick says. He squirms in Hood’s hold, restless. “It was Scheherazade. I loved her, the idea of her. Clever, clever. Every night, weaving stories on stories to stay alive, no proof that the end would ever come. That’s all she is, is stories. I love her. She is what I am.”
There’s an ache in Hood’s chest. “How old were you?”
“Thirteen? Fourteen?” Dick guesses, bleary. “B gave it to me when I was laid up with pneumonia. Broke a rib. Stupid. I read it over and over. Jay, how did you find me?”
“You caused a big fuckin’ scene, remember? You got snatched off the street in broad daylight.”
“I overdid it a little,” he admits. His breath is still choppy. “But they didn’t give me a lot to work with, they’re very bad at kidnapping. I had to all but trip and fall into the van! Ruins all the fun.”
“The fun? Of being kidnapped?” Hood snorts. “You’ll have to leave a bad review.”
“One star,” Dick agrees distantly.

“Then what’s the problem? After all, aren’t we all in the same line of work here?” He swirled his finger in a lazy circle to encompass everyone in this room.
Talia’s lips compressed with displeasure. “But you didn’t used to be. There was a time when you considered life precious. Sacred, even. What on earth has Deathstroke been doing to you?” She looked him up and down with a strange expression on her face. “Two years with him, and he’s turned you into this? This brittle, slavishly obedient, pitifully diminished semblance of your former self?”
“Oh, is this the part where we insult each other? I thought we were skipping it in the interest of saving time.”

Summary
Clark grimaced. “I’m not sure it’s that straightforward in Gotham. There’s -- things are different here."
“Hnn.” That was a dangerous sound, especially when it was coming from Ollie. “So when Batman forced Robin through Joker Gas as training, that was just dandy? And when the kid showed up on the Watchtower a month later with six broken bones because Batman abandoned him in Gotham for a night -- that wasn’t straightforward to you?”

“Try again,” Bruce instructed quietly, barely more than a murmur in Clark’s ears. “Don’t think about what’s coming or where. Think about sticking your landing no matter what happens.”
“I always stick my landings,” Dick said petulantly. “You’re the one making it hard.”
“Good.”
“UGH.”

Summary
Slade gets the call one cold winter morning, when he’s between jobs. He recognizes the number immediately because it belongs to a former client. A satisfied client.
“Mr. Wayne,” he says when he picks up. “What can I do for you?”
“I have a job for you,” says Wayne.

By the time he bursts into Desmond’s inner sanctum, he’s angry enough to smash skulls to pulp. There are ten men in the room, but Slade’s eye immediately finds the boy tied to a chair in the middle of the room. Abruptly, the haze of rage recedes and cold logic reasserts itself. It’s like waking up from a nightmare.
Because the chair that Robin’s sitting on might be bolted to the floor, but the only things holding him are some ropes and zip ties. They haven’t removed his full-face mask or bothered to gag him. A thug is holding a knife to his throat, but Robin’s feet are tapping the ground idly and he’s humming softly under his breath. He is the very picture of unconcern.
The tidal wave of relief almost washes away his anger. Almost.
“Kid, what the hell are you doing?” Slade growls.
Robin tilts his head like his namesake. “Waiting for you. I didn’t know what the kidnapping protocol was.”

Summary
Dick has only been a mob enforcer for six months, but delivering a shipment of guns to an up-and-coming crime lord in Gotham should have been easy. All he needs to do is win the man's trust and secure him as a repeat customer.
Unfortunately, the Red Hood is not impressed with him.

“Are you trying to kill me?” Dick asks breathlessly as Hood bends over and gets his hand around a long metal rod with one end bent at a right angle.
“I’m gonna maim you, Golden Boy. I don’t know why you’ve turned into this — this sad, crumpled dishrag of a person, but it makes me sick. I can barely stand to look at you like this. Christ.”
He bashes the rod through a glass-topped table. Dick narrowly escapes filleting his hand open on a shard the size of a coaster.
“Hood—”
“Pick up a fucking weapon.”
“Hood!”
“Who did this to you? Tevis? I’ll rip him into a hundred pieces.”
He’s gone completely off the deep end, Dick thinks, horrified.
