“Sooo. How’re we doing this. Big piece of dramatic tape down the center? Pin up some curtains for modesty? Share?” He wriggles his eyebrows. Eddie finds it easier to tease Steve than admit he doesn't know what's happening here.
Steve had insisted on again carrying his boxes up two flights of stairs. They’d passed Robin in the kitchen putting groceries away, watching Eddie watch Steve(‘s arms), following like a lost puppy, her mouth slightly open. Eddie had just shrugged helplessly. He didn’t know either, okay?
Now here they are, in the room. Steve is putting his sheets on his twin bed, and Eddie is sitting on his and bouncing up and down, jittery. He’s never shared a room with someone before, and it’s making him weirdly nervous. Or just Steve in general is making him nervous. He’s not speaking, just making his bed.

“Dustin just said you gave me more blood than you should’ve.” Silence, for a moment. Eddie’s jaw works. He stares at his hands, picks at a scab on his knuckle, fiddles with his rings. His arms have yellowing bruises from IV lines, and Steve feels an irrational anger that even to save Eddie they had to hurt him. “And that you slept on the floor that night. And I know you did after that, too.”
“And?”
Eddie looks at him. “And I don’t get why.” Again that sting. “Like, I know you did it for Henderson, at first, but going through that portal was just going above and beyond, man, and I do. Not. Get. It.”
“Because you’re part of the group,” Steve says helplessly. He’s never been very good with words.
(Steve takes Eddie home from the hospital.)

He feels guilty, now, at making Marc worry enough to call his newly ex-wife. His fingers find the edge of a pillow behind him and he pulls it over his face. Maybe Marc can just go away, and Steven can stay here forever becoming one with this awful fucking bed.
He feels the mattress dip next to him. “Hey,” Marc says, hesitant, setting a hand on Steven’s shoulder. It’s so light it could almost be Steven’s imagination. He didn’t think Marc was capable of gentleness. At least, that’s what Marc would have him believe.Series

Summary
Steve has a brief lapse in impulse control that changes everything because he suffers from a condition called “I have no sense of self-preservation unless I’m actively trying to prevent children from dying”itis and unfortunately, it’s incurable.
Luckily, Eddie’s into it.
“Caaaareful, Harringtoooooon,” Eddie said in a sing-song voice. “Trying to fix me is a lost cause.”Steve scoffed. “I’m not trying to ‘fix’ you,” he grumbled. “I’m not delusional.”
“Sure you’re not,” Eddie said in that shit-eating way of his. “You just want me to be a more responsible co-parent for Dustin.”
Steve couldn’t help but frown, hating that he could feel his ears turning red, wishing that Eddie would back up and that he could stop feeling so goddamn weird.
“We’re not - I’m not a parent, co or otherwise,” he said, frowning even harder.
Eddie made a face like Steve was tragic. “Oh, Steve… I thought you said you weren’t delusional.”
