It is the following year that the news comes on a flutter of dark wings; Prince Lucerys Velaryon has flowered and with it their long engagement finally draws to a close. The Princess of Dragonstone and her brood will descend upon King’s Landing in a moon’s turn. There is to be a wedding.
So, it is settled then. Aemond will marry the boy who maimed him, will take him under his protection, bed him and whelp him to his good family’s satisfaction. He will have to follow him all the way back to the yawning maw of his childhood nightmares. He will have to shadow his husband in the halls that witnessed his spilled blood and swallow back the bitter ichor of justice denied.
And maybe then, it will finally be his turn.
