'“Director?” Coulson called over the radio. “Directer Fury, do you copy?”
Instead of saying something like, ‘yes, agent, me and my assistant are fine, thank you,’ Fury responded with, “The tesseract is with a hostile force. I have men down. Hill?”
“A lot of men still under,” Agent Hill responded, sounding harried. “I don’t know how many survivors.”
“Sound a general call,” Fury ordered. “I want every living soul not working rescue looking for that briefcase.”
“Rodger that,” Hill responded.
“Coulson, get back to base. This is a Level Seven.” Fury glanced over at Merlin as he continued, “As of right now, we are at war.”
Merlin pursed his lips at that, looking back the way Loki had disappeared.
“What do we do?” Coulson asked quietly.
Fury lowered his radio slowly, staring out at nothing. “Will you help?” He asked Merlin, not bothering to face him.
Merlin bit his lip, thinking. Then he sighed, and squared his shoulders. “The prat would never forgive me if he found out I’d run off somewhere instead. ’Specially now he knows I can actually handle myself.”'
